Gov. Hogan's plans to add two private toll lanes in both directions on I-495 and I-270 will bring significant damage to our environment, our health, and our communities. As described in the July 18, 2020 Dontwiden270.org newsletter, the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) recently released an 18,000 page Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).
However, the DEIS fails to study the full range of impacts that the highway plan could have on our environment, health, and communities.
Public commenting is an important way to continue building opposition against this project.
There will be virtual public hearings on the DEIS on August 18, 20, 25 and September 3 from 9 am – 8 pm and in-person hearings on September 1 in Largo and September 10 in Rockville from 12 – 9:00 pm. Written comments will be accepted between July 10 - October 8, 2020. MDOT has released instructions for oral testimony and written comments.
Your comments are an important contribution to challenging the project and building the political will needed to fight for a healthy future.
